The first space we will be revealing from our Jener + Sunset project is the office! If you have been following along then you know this is a project near and dear to my heart, if not you can catch up here to see why!
As a reminder this space started out pretty bland and that lacked personality. That is no longer the case! But, before we get into the details, let’s take a look at the befores:
This once blank wall has been completely transformed into a 9 foot, floor to ceiling, custom built-in with 34 shelves… Yes, I said 34! Not only is it stunning but it was designed to be functional and purposeful for their home office. Since the ceilings are 9ft and we added a ladder to make the higher shelving accessible. And let’s be honest, everyone dreams of custom shelving with a rolling ladder… We all saw Beauty and the Beast, the library with a ladder was the first step to falling in love!
This beauty was built with love in Red Oak and sprayed in SW Cyberspace on site. We left the counter height tops natural with a protective polyurethane sealant. This provided contrast and tied in nicely with the Red Oak ladder.
As you can imagine, styling 34 shelves is no easy task. Lucky for us, our clients had plenty of decor items throughout their house that we were able to incorporate into our styling. We were able to use books, legos, plants, baskets, and miscellaneous objects to fill the space and create a balanced design. You heard that right… Legos!.
While the bookshelves are already a massive focal point the layout of the room allowed for a secondary focus. Our clients have collected and framed art from theri travels over the years so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for a gallery wall. Since the art was framed in matte black we wanted to add other wall art to avoid the black carrying too much weight. Therefore we choose lighter colored and different shapes to create an eclectic and modern gallery wall. We also added some functionality to the gallery wall with a plug-in sconce which allowed for additional mood lighting if someone wanted to cozy up and read by the window.
For more information on creating your own gallery wall be sure to check out this blog post from our Banbury + Ball project.
We love lighting… It’s a great way to update a space. Since the room gets good airflow we replaced the outdated ceiling fan for a 5 glob linear lighting fixture. Then we added an accent chair with luxurious leather and wood materials to create texture and comfort — We paired that with a marble tulip end table. Finally, we anchored the room with a patterned neutral toned area rug. To make sure it stays put we used double sided tape.
There is so much that goes into creating a beautiful, functional, and purposeful home. Follow along here to see how our Jener + Sunset projects came together. And don’t worry I’ve linked all the sources I could at the bottom of this post!
Keep on doing you-
