It’s that time, here is the last part to our Glengrove + Hamilton project. If you’re not familiar with the project make sure you check our intro post, here, to get all the details and where we started. Today I get to take you into what once was a very long, skinny and out dated master bathroom, turned into a modern master bathroom! Before we get too far, let’s take a look at where we started!
Yep, there she is in all her glory!
First plan of attack was to resize the space. We moved the interior wall out to make the entire bathroom wider. From there we increased the shower size, moved the toilet, shrank the vanity and added a walk in master closet! You can see the full floor plan here.
Let’s take a double look at this space now. As you walk into the master bathroom from the master bedroom you’re welcomed by a full length mirror. This image shows the way the space reflexes perfectly!
To the right of the bathroom as you walk in there is now a brand new walk-in closet. It’s fun to look back and know this couple didn’t have a walk-in closet before we started. In fact, they couldn’t even share a closet. Now they’ve got one dark and moody space to share. I never realized how sexy a closet could be.
We wanted to make sure we created a closet space that was both functional and purposeful for our clients to use on a daily basis. Closets are a very personal space, much like a kitchen. Everything needs to have a place to live.
We wanted to make the paint in here, from simple white walls to black trim to all the incredible features of the bathroom, shine. As you leave the closet, you get an incredible view of how white walls with black trim can really elevate a room’s aesthetic.
I love how the black trim color draws your eyes to the incredible shower at the end of the bathroom. While this bathroom is long, using the bold trim color helps to break up the space making it feel spacious.
To anchor the room itself, and keep it from feeling too long, we used this incredible vintage rug. To say we all haven’t been lusting over it would be a complete understatement. The bright, vibrant colors truly bring the space to life. If you look close enough you can see multiple rugs have been married together to bring this beauty back to life for years to come. Gosh I love what a true vintage rug can do for a space.
I think by now you know I have a true love affair with lighting. If you don’t know, make sure you educate yourself on why lighting matters so much in a space. I’ve got a full post on the perfect light bulbs to help you! Before we started this bathroom the amount of lighting was slim. It was to the point that it made you wonder how you could see when you were getting ready and showering! Don’t you worry, we fixed all that. We went with two recessed lights in the shower and 3 outside. We paired that with double hung pendant lights at differing height and an incredible light fixture above the mirror. No longer do they need to worry about if they can see or not in this space.
We were looking to create a very sleek and modern bathroom. A floating vanity was exactly what this space needed. We have custom walnut fronts with a quartz concrete-looking countertop.
We went with wall mounted fixtures to provide that extra sleek look.
The tile in this bathroom brings in all the texture and movement. The goal here with the floors was to create a very clean, cohesive vibe, similar to poured concrete. We were looking to make the space appear wider. Having large scale tiles laid straight allowed for just that look! We carried that right up on the two side walls of the shower.
To keep with the sleek, modern look we created, the black tile we used for the backsplash was laid horizontally. The added texture to the tile helps create movement and warmth in what could otherwise feel like a long, cold space.
Now let’s talk about these penny rounds! I am such a lover of this classic look. We used the matte black penny rounds on the back wall and carried them on to the shower floor. I still can’t get over how incredible they look.
Inside the shower we have his and her fixtures. All in matte black. The matte black niche runs almost the full length of the wall. We also have a lower niche added for easy shaving! The shower door is custom and swings both in and out.
Looking back at this space it is truly stunning. I am sure the homeowners will love this room for many years to come. Feeling grateful to do this for a living!
Much love –
Danielle
