At C+A we absolutely love creating custom built-ins for our clients. There are so many opportunities in homes where you can completely transform a space and turn a blank canvas into something functional and purposeful. One of the most popular built-in requests we get are for Mudrooms and we want to share with you a mudroom from our Roosevelt + Monroe project. If you aren’t familiar with this project it also included a colorful laundry room with a dog shower! It’s a must see!
In our client’s entry way they had a standard closet with folding doors. While having a closet is always a nice feature our client wanted something that was multipurpose. They recently welcomed a newborn to the family so they needed a place to store their stroller, jackets, shoes, and a spot to sit to get things organized prior to heading out the door.
Now for the reveal of how this standard closet turned into a fully functioning and purposeful mudroom! Check it out!
As you can see this mudroom meets all expectations and then some! We were able to create a bench with enough clearance to fit the stroller. We provided storage for miscellaneous items such as dog equipment, hats, purses etc. There is even a built-in electrical outlet to charge and store a vacuum!
The paint color we selected was Sherwin Williams Dark Night in a satin finish which was sprayed at our shop prior to installation. We wanted to bring in some warmth to the moody blue hue using a natural wood finish on the bench. Would you look at that wood grain detail!
And you know we had to have all the fun hooks and hardware!! We wanted some of our clients’ personalities to shine through so we incorporated her love for animals through the hooks. Using brass as our metal we used a combination of elephants, rinos and elk and placed the hooks specifically to maximize usage. Example: lower hooks for backpacks, hats, kids coats etc. Then we selected sleek brass pulls for the cabinet fronts to pair with the animal hooks.
