Make Small Bathroom Look Bigger

Small bathrooms can be more challenging than large ones. Especially when it comes to making the space work for you. When we encounter a small bathroom remodel we are always looking for ways to make the space feel larger than it is and make the bathroom more functional and purposeful than it was prior!  Here are our top 11 tips on how to make a small bathroom feel big!

1. Keep It Light

When dealing with a small bathroom space keeping everything light makes the space feel more spacious and airy! Think keeping everything one color from the floor tile to the shower and wall tile even the paint on the wall. Light and airy helps everything feel larger in size. Here's a list of some of our favorite white paints to use.

2. Use Dark Purposefully

Dark colors can work wonders for you when done right and we love to use them to elevate a space. Think a dark ceiling to make a room appear larger than it is or a dark trim around windows and doors to draw your eye there.

3. Glass Shower Doors Always

Glass doors really open up a space. The glass allows for the room to continue into the shower without putting a hard stop on your eyes.

4. Pocket Doors

We use pocket doors as much as possible because they save so much space! By removing the swing of the door you have more space inside of the room to use.

5. Wall Mounted Vanity

Floating vanities feel much lighter and less intrusive in a space. By allowing the floor to show underneath you get the feeling that there is more room in the space. Plus, you can clean under there too! 

6. Be Simple With Material Selections

In small spaces you do not want to overcrowd the room with the amount of materials you select. We like to keep it simple, starting with 3 material selections to build from. 

7. Carry Tile From Floors To Walls

We love playing with color to make spaces feel larger. Bringing the floor tile on to your walls really draws your eyes up. This makes the space feel larger and more grand! 

8. Always Add A Niche

Space saver right here! We think every bathroom needs a niche. This is a great place to store all your shower essentials. Here's a few of our go to favorites for shower essentials!

9. Bounce Light Around The Room

With a small space you want to maximize the natural light the best way possible. The easiest way to do this is with mirrors. The natural light bouncing off them elevates the room. Another great way to bounce light off the room is with the material selection you use. 

10. Invest In Good Lighting

Turns out good lighting is important! You want to make sure you have both task lighting and ambient lighting. Both types of lighting play an important role in your bathroom. Task lighting, such as sconces and pendants, typically goes around your bathroom vanity area where you are performing specific tasks. Ambient lighting such as recessed lights are used in the ceiling to light the bathroom as a whole.

11. Use Floating Shelves To Create Space

When you're limited on space, using your walls is a great way to create extra storage. We use floating shelves for additional storage for towels and other everyday essentials. Floating shelves are also a great way to bring some additional decor into your small space!
