I think by now you know we are all about making our home (and our client’s homes) smarter, from the products we pick to the placement and function of your design. Here at Clark + Aldine we are always looking for ways to make homes more functional and purposeful for families! One of our absolute favorite ways to go about this is through smart technology. Michael cannot seem to get enough of the latest technology to make our home more convenient for us. Today I am finally sharing with you our number one go to smart lighting with Caséta by Lutron. Let’s get right into it. I am going to break down why we love them, how we bridge them and the ways we stay connected!
Smart Switch
In 2021 we like the idea of convenience in our home when we can allow for it. Caséta by Lutron does just that for us. One smart switch can make any kind of light bulb smarter! You guys know my love for the correct lighting in your home, and the light bulbs you have make all the difference!
We have the Caséta dimmers throughout our first floor! Updating our switches allowed for all the technology to be hubbed inside of the switch. Meaning, we didn’t have to switch every light bulb in our home to a smart light bulb and we didn't need to rely on Wi-Fi for the lights to be connected.
All of our first floor lighting is connected through Caséta. I love that this does not impact the design of my lighting choices. Both my chandelier and all my sconce lighting are still smart, the correct lumens and kelvins and, of course, dimmable! Talk about setting the mood no matter what the occasion is.
Bridge Your Lighting
Are you over here wondering what does that even mean? If so don’t sweat it, I got you. The Smart Bridge allows you to provide fast, reliable control of your lighting from the app or even your voice! Ummm hello! We can get into voice control in a little bit. But first let's break down why we love this smart bridge - number one, it does not use our Wi-fi. Yep, you read that right. No slow Wi-Fi because you’ve got smart lighting! By not being connected to your Wi-Fi that means if ever your Wi-Fi would be down...your lighting still works! Ok but the real best part of the bridge is that it unlocks the full capabilities of Caséta functionality … scheduling and voice control! I freakin’ love this part!
Stay Connected
Now that I’ve got you on board with why we use both the smart switch and the bridge I want to explain just a bit more on how these small changes have made a huge difference in connecting my home to our everyday function and purpose of living there! Caséta integrates seamlessly with Apple's HomeKit giving us hands-free access to all of our lighting...Hey Siri, turn on...you get the idea! Not an Apple home? Don’t worry because Caséta works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant as well.
I love how our kids can now come downstairs on their own without being worried all the lights are out! They can simply ask Siri to turn them on by calling them out by name. We’ve set up room locations and names on the app. Additionally as if this couldn’t get better we have our exterior lighting scheduled. By using the app we can schedule our lighting to turn on automatically based on the time of day or use the geofencing feature to control the lights based on our geographical location, meaning the sun goes down the lights go on!
We also love the Smart Away allowing Caséta to work harder for us. I mean what’s not to love about that?!? Smart Away will randomly turn lighting on and off throughout our house throughout the evening, making it appear as if we are actually home. We love using this when we are away! And seeing how we are fully running off Caséta in our home it looks realistic!
