The first reveal we have to share on our Hickory Ridge + Amherst project is the master bathroom!

As a reminder, we are completely transforming a real life farmhouse to make it modern. You can learn more about this project and what it entails by following along here. We will be sharing our process from start to finish so you can be part of all the fun!

Now back to the master bathroom reveal — This is giving us all of the feels! If you don’t remember where we started let me show you.

As you can see this bathroom needed a little updating in order to meet the design, aesthetic, and functionality our client needed for a modern farmhouse. The goal was to add a soaker tub, free standing shower, double sink, and sufficient storage to create a bathroom oasis. I think you will agree we were able to achieve this and then some!

REVEAL TIME

One of the ways you can mix modern and farmhouse styles is playing with contrasts. Since a modern farmhouse is a contrast in itself we felt this was a great fit. We were able to incorporate a 72” wood vanity with quartz countertop and custom wood floating shelves in order to bring warmth into the space. Then we used a pattern porcelain matte tile to create movement and add texture. We used primarily matte black metal throughout the hardware, mirrors, and lighting fixtures for a modern touch.

While this large vanity provides plenty of storage space we still felt the need to add recessed medicine cabinets for additional storage. The open bottom of the vanity also allowed for towels and provided a spa/retreat feeling. As an added luxury we installed heated floors - so no more cold feet during our Michigan winters!

Our client's home is older and has the original heated based boards on both levels. Since our client is keeping their radiator heating we wanted to make sure we updated the original covers so it didn't clash with our design. We decided to go with a white finish in a sleek modern design to blend in with the walls.

In order to fit a soak tub and free standing shower we had to remove the closet. Since the vanity and medicine cabinets provide enough storage this was a no brainer! The space went from feeling tight + narrow to open + airy. A once closed-in tub has been transformed into a space for relaxing under a glamorous farmhouse chandelier. Yes Please - I’ll take one of those!!

Since we wanted each aspect of the space to feel cohesive we decided to use white subway tile and penny tile in the shower. Using color is a way to bring textures seamlessly together. In this case we used Sherwin Williams Pure White for our white. Then we used a contrasting color (Sherwin Williams Iron Ore) on the ceiling to create visual balance, marrying both sides of the room.

Here is another angle so you can see how the space flows. I often forget until I see these “afters” how many details go into creating a beautiful, purposeful and functional space.
