In June of 2015 we closed on our first home that we actually own! Since then we have been beyond busy trying to make our 1950s house feel like a home to us. I am excited to say we have one room completely finished! M & I have been working hard to create a space that is inviting and cozy yet still kid friendly. I have included some before pictures from when we viewed the house and of course our after pictures.
In the living room space we painted the walls using behr paint (Ground Fog). M installed all new base boards and window casings along with new window coverings. Our new sofa with chaise lounge has been a dream for a long time, and now we finally have the space for it. Because we have two small boys we wanted fabric that would be durable…very durable. We decided to go with an outdoor fabric inside. Yes, you read that right, and I promise you it’s very comfortable and incredibly easy to wipe up spit up or anything else that happens to spill! Our other dream was a set of leather chairs that would patina beautifully over time. It creates an amazing little reading space too!
Before
The coffee table had to be something with corners we didn’t need to worry about. With one very active toddler and a baby who will be walking before we know it that was not something we wanted to worry about! Plus the leather makes it so easy to wipe up spills! Having lots of surface areas to place our drinks was important to us. Seeing how our coffee table doesn’t really work for that and knowing you have to set your drink down when your littles want in, we decided to go with 3 side tables. Two of them are a paired design and the third is completely different, yet coordinates flawlessly with the others. Since we haven’t added can lighting yet we needed two lamps to keep the room light!
Before
I have a slight obsession with accent pillows so yes they change each season/holiday. I can’t help myself. Plus, it’s a relatively inexpensive way to dress up a room without spending a lot of money. Gotta love home goods, marshalls and target for these finds! Ok, yes sometimes I splurge and buy a pottery barn one (or three), I love a good pb sale!
much love-
danielle
