Can I tell you how much I love that wallpaper is back on trend! I am pretty sure you’ve figured out my love for wallpaper already as I use it all the time. One of the questions that seems to pop up all the time around wallpaper is how do you actually narrow down your selection process? Where do you buy from? And how do you know if it’s the right wallpaper for you? I got you guys. Today I am going to give you our tips on how to pick wallpaper!
This might sound like a no-brainer, but before you start hunting for wallpaper it’s a good idea to know where you are going to put the wallpaper. Often the location of the wallpaper alone immediately narrows down the options. The location can help guide you if you are trying to make the room look big, feel more comfortable or intimate and what colors you are going to be hunting for.
What I mean here is you want to think about how you want to get your wallpaper onto its desired location. Peel + Stick vs Paste, for example,is the best way to think about it. While I think both have pros and cons the easiest way to look at it is more permanent vs removable or easier application vs more challenging. While peel + stick wallpaper has its pro for being easy to remove it can be very challenging to install. Paste wallpaper is much easier to install because of the movement provided from the paste.
Next up, deciding on an overall color palette. I like to leave this open because you might be hunting for something green and then find a wallpaper that is mostly black but has green in it that you are gravitating towards. By starting with several color options in the palette I am trying to achieve it allows for me to narrow down what I am drawn to without overlooking options I might have not seen otherwise.
If you aren’t sure of the exact type of pattern you are looking for, that’s ok. You can at least narrow down the scale. Do you want a large scale print or something a bit smaller? Are you open to seeing options or do you want something that is more simplistic?
Patterns aren’t the only way you can have movement in wallpaper! Textured wallpaper is another great option. There are all sorts of textured patterns out there. Each textured wallpaper creates a new pattern providing depth to your room.
Once you’ve got this far in your selection process it makes it easier if you look over what you are loving and narrow down your selections. Become even more specific about the color, pattern and texture you are looking for. By narrowing your search you are more likely to become less overwhelmed!
This is another one you’d think is a no brainer, but I guess not for everyone. Get yourself a sample of the wallpaper you are thinking about using. Just like paint, wallpaper will look different in each space. You want to make sure you like the way the paper reads in the light you are putting it into. Plus this provides you a chance to feel the quality of the paper and texture if you have any!
There are so many incredible places to purchase wallpaper! We are hoping this is helpful to have a few places to start your search at!
