Next up from our Glengrove + Hamilton Project we are revealing the office. As a reminder, we are completely transforming this second floor into a sleek + modern space. Here you can learn more about this project and what it entails — Within that link, we’ll be sharing our process from start to finish so you can join the fun!
Before we hop into the reveal, take a look at where we started:
Our clients used this space as an office primarily and doubled as a mini-home gym. As you can see, the space was cluttered with bulky furniture. Since the space is small, and an entire wall was already a closet, we needed to think of an aesthetically pleasing but functional layout.
Now for the fun part – the after images!
Since the office is visible from the hallway we wanted to do something fun and inviting. After All this is a space they’d want to actually work in!
We achieved this by creating an accent wall as the main focus. First, we used SW 9130 Evergreen Fog as our accent color to create depth. Second, we sourced art from our clients collection to design a floor to ceiling gallery wall. Afterall, we had to show off our client’s personality for those video calls!
When creating gallery walls, we involve the client as much as possible since art is very personal. In this case, we included art the client already owned plus a few new pieces. From there we focused on the layout, which can take some time. It’s important to create balance and harmony among all the pieces. Lastly, we picked out frames from one of our favorite companies, Framebridge. We went with an asymmetrical layout so we wanted to follow suite with an assortment of frames — All with different finishes and textures. We are working on a comprehensive guide to building the perfect gallery wall and will share it here once it’s completed!
In order to maximize space we selected a sleek and modern writers desk with a simple frame. Using a desk with clean lines provides open negative space which allows you to see other aspects of the room. We paired a textured leather office chair with matte black metal legs to compliment the desk materials.
We absolutely love the warmth the wood tones bring to this space but wanted to ensure they weren’t getting lost or blurred together. By using a vibrant colored vintage rug under the desk we were able to help the different wood stains stand out. Outside of being one-of-a-kind, Vintage rugs are also extremely durable and easy to care for. Check out our blog post for sources on where you can find the perfect vintage rug for your space.
Knowing the office needed to serve as a home gym we had to place the Peloton strategically. By making the accent wall the first thing a visitor sees, we were able to tuck the Peloton in the corner so it was not visible from the hall. This allowed for enough space away from the desk and the ability to actually use the machine. The final touch was mounting the TV on the blank wall across from the desk — Perfect for some background noise during the work day!
There is so much that goes into creating a beautiful, functional, and purposeful home. Follow along here to see how our Glengrove + Hamilton projects whole second floor came together. And don’t worry I’ve linked all the sources I could at the bottom of this post!
