Working out in the comfort of your own home is becoming increasingly popular. Not only does it help eliminate travel time to and from the gym, but it can also save you money in gym membership fees. But creating an effective home gym can be a daunting task. In this blog post, we’ll look at how to set up an affordable and efficient home gym that will help you get the most out of your workouts.
At the end of 2019 Michael and I made the decision to invest more in ourselves. We had just taken the biggest risk of our lives the previous year to go all in on our brand and quickly watched our self care routine dwindle to nearly nothing as we put everything into the brand. The best first step for us was daily exercise, something we’ve both been passionate about since we were kids. Yet, it seems to be the first thing we let go of.
Since owning the business full time, early mornings and late nights meant that we weren’t making time to get to the gym every day. So we cancelled our memberships and created a home gym. And are we so glad we did. With the pandemic hitting the world swiftly exercise and gym access has become more of a necessity than ever. With the timing ever so right we are excited to share what was once our kids playroom, and is now our home gym!
The overall goal in the space was to have a calm and relaxing, yet motivational environment. New paint, trim and flooring was a must. I landed on Alabaster for the walls and ceiling and accessible beige for the finished moldings. We carried the Anew Gentling engineered hardwood floors from LIFECORE Flooring throughout our entire first floor, and in the gym repurposed our mid-century modern floating shelves Michael had built and we had to take down since we took out that wall during the kitchen remodel.
The shelves were the last element to be added, yet are the perfect addition to the room providing us with a place to house plants! I wanted the room to give me life and what better way to do that than with live plants. Feeling like you might not be a living plant person, try these plants first. They are a lot harder to kill! I think even you might be able to keep them alive! And although it is rare, we sometimes have leftover water in our bottles and are able to feed them after a hard workout!
When it’s came to wall art we knew we needed something, but didn’t want to go overboard. And we’re not really the “mirrored walls” type, so that wasn’t an option. We were looking for words that would motivate us and inspire us to go harder everyday, and what better way to say that than through these words…‘do epic shit’! Thanks to Feather and Birch we’re able to look at these words every day, and sometimes they push us to go just a few steps further!
Clearly we are Peloton people! We have both the Bike and Tread. We can not say enough how much we love the Peloton experience. When it comes to design, of course they are top notch in every way. But for us it is all about the community. The design of the Bike and Tread certainly piqued our interest, but it was the community of instructors and athletes that really made the investment an easy decision. Everyday we gather with these people and sweat, smile, laugh and sometimes cry…and together we grow stronger and more confident.
While Peloton equipment is a significant investment, they’ve created a digital app only platform that allows anyone with equipment (or just their bodies and a will to be better) an opportunity. Just download the app and pick a class…that is all it takes to get started. If you are looking to invest in yourself, and are able to invest in either the Bike of Tread we would love to share the Peloton experience with you too!
