High-end kitchen remodel blending historic charm and modern living

Home Renovation in Ann Arbor MI

Baldwin + Barry

Historic warmth meets bold modern living. Layered, colorful, deeply personal.

An early 1900s Ann Arbor home transformed floor-to-floor — honoring its historic bones while delivering a custom kitchen, bold interiors, a spa-like primary bath, and a finished third-floor retreat the whole family loves.

A Home That Was Always This Good. It Just Needed the Right Team.

Baldwin + Barry is the kind of project that reminds you why old homes are worth the effort. Built in the early 1900s, this Ann Arbor three-story carried a century of character in its arched walkthroughs, its proportions, and its bones — and our job was to honor all of that while transforming it into a home that works for the way a family lives right now.

The transformation spans every floor. The custom kitchen anchors the main level with presence and function, flowing directly into a color-drenched dining room that now opens to the outdoor space through a newly added door wall. That connection between inside and out was intentional — a decision that changed how the whole home feels.

Upstairs, the primary bathroom became a true retreat. Elevated finishes, spa-inspired design, the kind of space you look forward to every morning. And behind the walls throughout, the home was fully modernized: energy-efficient mechanicals, updated plumbing, and infrastructure built for the next hundred years.

But perhaps the most surprising transformation? The third floor. Once a forgotten attic, it’s now a fully finished flex space — a place for imaginative play, quiet moments, creative projects, or the ever-growing Lego collection of a very enthusiastic young builder.

The Kitchen

Custom from the ground up and designed for real cooking and real gathering. The sprawling layout offers generous prep space, professional-grade appliances, and a presence that makes it the undeniable heart of the home.

The Dining Room + Door Wall

Bold color. A newly added door wall that connects the dining room to the outdoor space. The result is a room that feels expansive, warm, and made for long meals with people you love.

The Third-Floor Flex Space

What was once an unused attic is now one of the most beloved rooms in the house. A finished flex space that adapts to whatever the family needs — and grows with them as those needs change.

The Primary Bathroom

A daily retreat, not just a bathroom. Elevated finishes and spa-caliber design create a space that makes the ordinary feel exceptional — every single morning.

Preserving the past while making room for a beautiful, functional future.”
